Düsseldorf
The customer
Düsseldorf is the regional capital of North-Rhine-Westphalia. An international business and financial hub, it is renowned for its fashion and trade fairs and has a population of around 600,000 people.
The challenge
Düsseldorf required a TETRA system to replace the existing analogue network, providing coverage for the city and the surrounding area - a total of 217 km².
The system would be used by up to 600 subscribers in the region, including public transport workers. A two-phase rollout was planned, which would see all radio users in the area of greater Düsseldorf migrate to the new system.
The solution
Impressed by eXTRAS TETRA systems already in successful operation with many local authorities - and providing features well-matched to their operational requirements - Düsseldorf chose Sepura to develop and deliver their new system, with local telecomms provider Drillisch Nachrichtentechnik GmbH & Co KG selected to install and operate the network.
Six base stations were selected for the initial phase, although and extension of the system beyond the core area of Düsseldorf was already being planned.
