Sepura Showcases In-Vehicle Hybrid Broadband Solution with VNC Automotive
Sepura and VNC Automotive will be demonstrating the integration of the SCU3 hybrid LTE and TETRA device with an in-vehicle infotainment solution at BAPCO 2023.
The UK public safety sector will be the first to see the latest developments in Sepura's LTE portfolio this week, with the team showing the SCU3 Dual Mode integrated with a vehicle's existing infrastructure at the BAPCO Annual Conference and Event.
Enabled by VNC Automative's Cobalt Cube®, the vehicle solution offers integration of the SCU3 Dual Mode with ancillary devices, such as light bars, sirens and CCTV, and facilitates the control of these devices through the vehicle's existing touchscreen.
This capability significantly reduces the costs and complexity of installing multiple devices within a vehicle, enables organisations to run hybrid critical communications fleets and offers public safety organisations an upgrade path to mission critical broadband with a trusted supplier.
“For customers who aren’t sure on a migration strategy to LTE, the use of a dual mode device offers the opportunity to continue using a proven solution in TETRA, while developing a strategy around broadband data services which require high speed bearers such as LTE.”
Peter Hudson, Chief Technology Officer, Sepura
Built on the market-leading Android operating system, Sepura’s SCU3 Dual Mode is a mission critical hybrid device that provides compatibility with a wide range of Android applications and a TETRA module that enables narrowband voice and data.
Both vehicles and control rooms can use the SCU3 Dual Mode, benefitting from access to data and applications to support operations, while frontline staff continue to use their existing TETRA hand-portable devices for mission critical voice communications.
“Cobalt Cube is simple yet powerful, helping to make public safety organisation’s vehicles safer and more efficient by integrating devices into one solution. The integration with Sepura’s next generation critical communications devices is a perfect example of this, enabling us to reduce the number of devices in a vehicle and the complexity of the installation, whilst providing an easy-to-use interface for each vehicle user.”
Tom Blackie, Chief Executive Officer, VNC Automotive
